Jeff Gordon wowed NASCAR fans when he rolled out a No. 24 paint scheme, dubbed FireStorm, that featured a new twist with the familiar flame and dayglo design that Gordon had been racing for several seasons before. The FireStorm look, which was designed by legendary motorsports artist Sam Bass, featured the signature fire-and flames atop an aggressively dark base.
Fast forward 15 years and Hendrick Motorsports driver will be paying homage to Gordon's "FireStorm" paint scheme with a special throwback look at Darlington Raceway in May. As part of the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR, Byron's No. 24 Chevrolet and longtime team partner Axalta will turn back the clock with a tribute to Gordon's legendary FireStorm design.
